Black Barn

Location: Rzeszow, Poland

Area: 196m² + 43m² garage

Design: 2026

Realization: 2027

A single-family house in the style of a modern barn, located in Przybyszówka, a quiet district in western part of Rzeszow. A narrow plot and the restrictive regulations of the local development plan, combined with an extensive functional program outlined by the investor, dictated highly precise management of the available building space. The specific ground conditions also proved to be a significant challenge. The proximity of the river and the high moisture level of the terrain necessitated the use of deep foundations. The building’s minimalist form was entirely finished with black timber, treated using the Japanese wood preservation technique, Shou Sugi Ban. The raw character of the composition was broken by contrasting joinery in a shade of noble wine.
